Infectious Pathologies

Description

The objectives of this research group are focused on the following basic aspects:

Infections in transplant patients:

1. To study the clinical epidemiology and risk factors of the most prevalent and serious infectious complications in solid organ and hematopoietic stem cell transplantations.
2. To assess the risk factors for mortality due to an infectious cause in solid organ transplant patients.
3. To develop biomarkers that will allow for determining the degree of immunosuppression of a transplant patient and their risk of developing an opportunistic infection or cancer by means of the development of clinical and analytical scores.
4. To develop a laboratory of immunological techniques adapted to the evaluation of the immune response and the risk of infection by cytomegalovirus and other opportunistic microorganisms.

Infections in the oncohematological patient:

1. To study the epidemiology, prevention and treatment of bacteremia caused by multidrug resistant gram-negative bacilli in hematological patients.
2. To discover new methods aimed at managing invasive fungal infections.

Infections in other immunosuppressed patients:

1. To assess the viral load of anelloviri (Torque-Teno virus) in patients with inflammatory joint diseases (in collaboration with the Rheumatology and Dermatology Services).
2. To develop measures to prevent infections in patients receiving biological drugs.

Nosocomial infection:

1. To study the clinical implications of candidemia.
2. To develop a program aimed at controlling nosocomial infections and promoting the adequate use of antimicrobial agents (PACTA Program).
