Abstract

The JARED project is a Europe-wide initiative tackling one of the region’s most pressing health challenges: Chronic Respiratory Diseases (CRDs), with a particular focus on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).Our mission is to bridge critical gaps in prevention and care by scaling up proven, effective strategies across EU member states. By adapting existing best practices to national needs, JARED aims to empower countries to deliver smarter, more inclusive, and more sustainable respiratory health solutions.

Key Objectives

The project is focused on innovation, equity, and impact:

• Driving Digital Innovation: Prioritizing digital solutions to overcome resource limitations and broaden the reach of health promotion and prevention tools.
• Addressing Health Inequalities: Through targeted activities aimed at vulnerable populations, who are often most exposed to risk factors and least likely to access care.
• Citizen Empowerment: Engaging diverse communities through health literacy campaigns to help citizens understand their lung health and reduce their CRD risk.
• Supporting National Planning: Creating a ready-to-use template and prototype for the development of National Plans for CRD prevention and management.

Areas of Action

JARED’s main areas of action include:

1. Strengthening Prevention: Widening prevention of the onset and progress of CRDs, with a focus on COPD.
2. Vaccination: Facilitating relevant vaccination programmes.
3. Early Detection: Scaling-up methods for the early detection of CRDs.
4. Self-Management: Intensifying and improving self-management support, empowering citizens living with CRDs to take charge of their own health.
